Meet the primates of Uganda during this luxury safari. Have time to study chimps during trekking and habituation, meet the mysterious mountain gorillas during two treks in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, spot some of the smaller monkeys of Uganda, stay in luxurious lodges and travel comfortably.

 


 


 

Day by day itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrival for your Primates of Uganda luxury safari

You will be met by our safari guide at Entebbe International airport and taken to a luxury hotel in Kampala to relax after the flight.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park area and crater walk

In the early morning we leave the busteling city of Kampala behind and drive towards Kibale Forest national park. Along the way we can make short stops by a roadside market, tea plantation or village to stretch our legs. In the afternoon we reach the crater lakes area around Kibale Forest national park and you set off for a walk taking a look at a crater lake and having chances for a first meeting with the primates of Uganda as black and white colobus, red colobus, red tailed monkey and grey cheeked mangabeys can be found here. After the walk we continue on to the luxury lodge for a nice evening.

Day 3: Chimpanzee habituation in Kibale Forest National Park

Spend the whole day with the chimps in Kibale forest participating in chimpanzee habituation, a truly exclusive experience. Kibale Forest national park is a rainy forest and a home to over 1500 Chimpanzees. During the day you have the chance to see the chimps close up and capture shots of them as they are grooming, building relationships, bringing up young ones, think and sharing food. In the forest 9 different species of monkeys are found so you have chances of seeing red colobus, red tailed monkey and bush babies as well.

Day 4:  Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and afternoon boat-cruise

We leave the forest behind and drive towards Queen Elizabeth national park in the morning. The journey takes us through a beautiful area with many stunning views. We arrive at the lodge in Queen Elizabeth in time for lunch before heading for the boat-cruise on the Kazinga channel in the afternoon. The Kazinga channel connects Lake George and Lake Edward and along its banks there are hippos, buffaloes and elephants visiting the water. From the boat you can see the big mammals as well as many different bird species. In the evening you enjoy a nice dinner at the lodge.

Day 5: Morning chimps trekking and afternoon game-drive in Kasenyi area

After breakfast we head towards the Kyambura Gorge where you will go for a chimps trekking adventure. Enjoy the special nature and head into the forest to meet the chimpanzees. After the trek we head back to the luxury lodge for a nice lunch and a bit of relaxation. Later in the afternoon it is time for a game-drive in the Kasenyi area of Queen Elizabeth national park. We search for lions, look at buffaloes, birds and antelopes as well as a salt lake. As the sun sets we head back to the lodge for dinner.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Ishasha's tree-climbing lions

We leave the lodge in the early morning to head towards the Ishasha part of Queen Elizabeth national park, known for its tree-climbing lions. The drive there takes around two hours and is an experience in it self as we might spot both elephants, baboons and black-and-white colobus monkeys by the road side. When reaching Ishasha we make a game-drive searching for lions in the big fig trees and being fascinated by the peculiar looking topis. After the game-drive we continue towards Bwindi Impenetrable national park, the home of the mountain gorillas. This journey offers beautiful views as we go from flat savanna via cultivated hills on to the forest covered mountains of Bwindi. Spend the evening relaxing at the lodge getting ready for tomorrows big adventure of gorilla trekking.

Day 7: First Gorilla trekking day

After breakfast at the lodge it is time to head to the gorilla trekking starting point. Your guide will take care of all practicalities and you take part in the briefing where you are told about the rules for the meeting with the mountain gorillas. You then walk off into the jungle with a group of up to eight people and a specialized guide to trek to the point where the gorillas are. A search team is always sent out in the early morning to locate the gorillas and lead the trekking guide to that point. Bwindi is a beautiful jungle so the trek is  an experience in itself. When you reach the point where the gorillas are you spend one unforgettable hour with them, hopefully spotting the great silverback, seeing some young members playing and studying these fascinating creatures close up. After the meeting with the gorillas you trek back and are picked up by your guide for the drive back to the lodge to rest.

Day 8: Second Gorilla trekking day

Wake up for another exciting day in the Misty Mountains. This time you are a bit more prepared for what will happen, but since we have to do with nature and wild animals it will for sure be an unique experience. Head into the jungle with your specialized guide and be lead to the point where the gorillas are to spend another unforgettable hour in their presence. After the trek your safari guide brings you back to the luxury lodge to rest and enjoy your last evening in the mountains of the gorillas.

Day 9: Fly-out, Bwindi-Entebbe

Enjoy  a nice breakfast and soak in the last of the magnificent views of the Misty mountains of Bwindi Impenetrable national park. In time for your flight your guide takes you down to the airstrip and wishes you a safe journey. You leave Bwindi with unforgettable memories of your Primates of Uganda luxury safari. Plan for an international flight connection in the evening.  

 


 

Possible extensions

  • Possible to add on a free day of rest in Bwindi between the gorilla treks
  • Option to go back to Entebbe by car instead of flight (takes a full day) 
  • Relax a few days at Pineapple Bay on Bulago Island (in Lake Victoria) after the safari. 
  • Stay a night in Kampala in connection to the safari if needed for your flight schedule.
